Preliminary data based on the notification from the Indonesian authorities:
During descend for arrival, when passed altitude of 18,500 feet the aircraft entered some thin layers of cloud. There was a sudden onset of moderate to severe turbulence that lasted about 3 to 5 seconds. During the turbulence, the PF attempted to reduce the speed to 260 knots, however the aircraft did not respond to the commanded change. The turbulence subsided after exiting the cloud, and the aircraft was in VMC again. One flight attendant was seriously injured.
