Accident to the Airbus AS350 registered C-GYGK on 13/02/2026 on the Mount Kubin (Canada)
Reduction in main rotor speed during a turn manoeuvre, emergency landing on mountainside, collision with ground
Preliminary data based on the notification from the Canadian authorities:
C-GYGK, a High Terrain Helicopters Ltd Aerospatiale AS 350 B-2 was operating from Nelson (High Terrain Helicopters) Heliport (CHT4), British Colombia, Canada, to Nakusp Aerodrome (CAQ5), British Colombia, Canada. Due to weather conditions, the pilot decided to do a course reversal. He brought the helicopter into a hover and began a pedal turn to reverse direction. As he increased airspeed for forward flight, he heard the low rotor horn and saw the low rotor light. He was unable to regain rotor speed and maneuvered to land on the mountain side. The aircraft rolled down the hill and came to rest with the engine still running. The pilot secured the engine and turned on the emergency locator transmitter. One occupant sustained minor injuries and one had serious injuries.
