Accident to the Brakogyro 914 UL identified 65QX on 23/09/2022 at Geville

Insufficient rotor speed, flapping of rotor blades, runway overrun during take-off run

Investigation progression Closed
Progress: 100%

During the take-off run on runway 17 at Geville microlight strip, the rotor’s speed remained well below the normal rotation speed for take-off.

It is possible that the pilot pre-rotated the rotor to an insufficiently high rotation speed and started the take-off run. The low rotor speed during the take-off run may have caused the blades to flap and bend. After exiting the runway, the gyroplane continued its run in a field before tipping over and coming to a stop on its RH side.

The investigation was not able to determine why the pilot started the take-off run with an insufficient rotor speed.
