Accident to the Cessna 182 registered F-HAEB occured on 19/07/2021 off the Gulf of Porto

During a flight over the sea bound for Corsica, the pilot noticed a sudden reduction in engine power. The failure persisted despite the emergency procedure being applied. As a consequence, the pilot ditched the aircraft.

As the wreckage could not be examined, the investigation was unable to determine the causes of the engine failure.

The pilot’s good knowledge of the ditching procedure, the advice given by the controller and the assistance provided by a helicopter pilot in guiding the pilot to a zone in which there was a boat, minimised the consequences of this accident.
