Accident to the Cessna 206 registered 9H-MDJ on 19/12/2022 at Roura
Engine failure, forced landing
The pilot declared that he was carrying out a dry-lease own-account transport flight for the benefit of a general food store, with the aim of transporting foodstuffs between Cayenne and Maripasoula. The evidence gathered during the investigation questions whether the scope of this flight complied with regulatory requirements.
Shortly after take-off, the engine suffered a serious failure and shut down, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in a field.
The investigation determined that the aeroplane had been experiencing recurrent oil leaks for several days. The engine had then experienced a reduction in oil pressure during a passenger transport flight, forcing the pilot to consider a diversion and then make an off-airfield precautionary landing. Repairs had been made to the engine's lubrication and cooling systems, and the aircraft was returned to service, without any more in-depth, non-routine examinations having been carried out, particularly with respect to the engine's internal condition.
