Accident to the Cirrus Aircraft - SR22 registered N842CD on 18/12/2018 at Nogent-le-Roi (Eure-et-Loir)
Mauvais positionnement du bouchon de remplissage d’huile, fuite d’huile, panne moteur, utilisation du parachute de secours
Cat. 2 investigation report: simplified-format report, adapted to the circumstances of the occurrence and the investigation stakes.
During the flight, engine oil progressively escaped probably due to the oil cap being incorrectly positioned during a pre-flight check, resulting in a progressive decrease in the oil pressure without a significant increase in temperature at first.
The pilot detected the decrease in oil pressure around 20 minutes after it had started. He started diverting to the closest airfield but then considered that it was an erroneous indication due to the stability of the oil temperature and resumed his cross-country flight to the planned destination. A short time later, he observed an increase in the oil temperature and started diverting again.
The engine shut down in flight and the pilot decided to deploy the emergency parachute.
