After about 45 minutes flight, the pilot switched tanks. A few minutes later, engine rpm decreased. The pilot applied the emergency procedure and switched tanks. The engine rpm seemed to be increasing then decreased again. The aeroplane was then at an altitude of about 900 ft. The pilot transmitted an emergency message and landed on a beach. During the landing roll, the nose landing gear collapsed.
