Cat. 2 investigation report: simplified-format report, adapted to the circumstances of the occurrence and the investigation stakes.

The pilot performed manoeuvres from the area at Persan-Beaumont aerodrome reserved for paramotors. After around 20 minutes, witnesses saw the paramotor spiral downwards and then hit the ground.
The statements collected do not show evidence of a sudden manoeuvre or folding of the wing. They reported a spiral dive to the ground. This could be explained by the pilot tightening his grip on the left brake control. It is possible that this tightening of the grip on the control was the result of an incapacitation and/or a disorientation of the pilot caused by his paroxysmal vertigo.

The pilot’s medical history points towards this scenario. It is almost certain that accidents resulting from paroxysmal positional vertigo most often remain unexplained.
