Note: the following information is principally based on the pilot’s statement. This information has not been independently validated by the BEA.
HISTORY OF THE FLIGHT
On the final approach to runway 25, the pilot held an indicated airspeed of between 80 and 85 kt. The surface wind was from 100° at 5 kt, varying in direction between 320° and 080°. On short final, the pilot reduced his speed to 70/75 kts. He indicated that he held the approach slope by checking the PAPI indications. On landing, the touchdown of the main landing gear was described as hard by the pilot. The aeroplane bounced and the nose gear came into contact with the runway. It tipped forward onto the part of the nose gear which remained attached (see Figure 1) and the propeller touched the ground. Despite the vibrations generated, the pilot held the aeroplane on the runway until it came to a standstill. The propeller was also damaged.
The nose gear wheel was found on the runway.
