PK-BKA, an EC-130 helicopter was chartered by a group of tourist from Kualanamu Airport to Samosir Regency and departed from Kualanamu at 09:30 LT with 1 pilot, 1 engineer and 5 tourist as passengers. This flight was normal and helicopter landed at Siparmahan Village, Samosir Regency.

At 11:33 LT, the PK-BKA helicopter departed from Samosir Regency return to Kualanamu Airport with 1 pilot, 1 engineer and 3 company employee as passengers. Estimate time arrival at Kualanamu Airport is 12:23 LT.

At 12:20 LT, Medan Control contact the PK-BKA helicopter, but there was no response.

At 18:00 LT, a local fisherman reported to nearest police station that he found a seat cushion in Toba Lake near Nainggolan Villages, Onan Runggu District, Samosir Regency; that suspected from a helicopter.

On 13 October 2015 morning, the SAR operation focused on suspected area, Toba Lake near Nainggolan Village.
