Serious incident to the ATR42 registered JA14HC operated by Hokkaido Air System on 11/12/2025 near Sapporo (Japan)

Unintended shutdown of engine 2, reduction in power of engine 1, loss of altitude during initial climb

Preliminary data based on the notification from the Japanese authorities:

During climbing of the Flight JAL2823 (operated by Hokkaido Air System) after took off from Sapporo Airfield, at approximately 12:37 on December 11, 2025 (JST), an instrument display indicated a malfunction in the No.2 (right) engine then it was shut down unintentionally, and the flight declared an emergency and diverted to Hakodate Airport (RJCH). In addition, No.1 (left) engine also lost thrust temporarily, resulting in a drop in altitude and the aircraft flying at a low altitude (the radio altimeter reading was 100 ft).
