Serious incident to the ATR72 registered ZK-MVQ operated by Air New Zealand on 27/11/2025 at Nelson (New Zealand)

Landing gear position alarm on final approach, approach aborted, diversion due to weather conditions

Responsible entity

New Zealand - TAIC

Preliminary data based on the notification from the New Zeland authorities:

On final at 500ft into NSN the crew of NZ5069 received a master warning for the landing gear not being in the down position. This was shortly followed by tower requesting they confirm the state of their gear. The crew initiated a go around and given the poor weather in Nelson elected to divert to Auckland as their nominated alternate. The crew debriefed on the way to Auckland that the gear indication may have been incorrectly perceived by the PM as the result of glare when they checked it as part of the before landing checklist.
