Impact of the rear fuselage with the runway during a go-around

At 05:08 (UTC) on 3 July 2026, a Cathay Pacific Airways Airbus A330-343 aircraft (Flight no. CX509) was approaching Runway 07R at the Hong Kong International Airport at the end of the flight from Narita International Airport. The autopilot was disconnected at approximately 800 ft above ground level.
While in manual flight, the aircraft began to drift to the right. The Captain instructed the First Officer to correct left and observed that the correction was insufficient. The aircraft then began to sink. The Captain took over control and initiated a go-around at approximately 200 ft.
The aircraft kept sinking, and a tail strike occurred on the runway approximately 800 ft past the threshold during the go-around manoeuvre.
The aircraft subsequently landed safely after the go-around.
