Accident to the Piper PA18 registered F-GNMD on 23/11/2021 at Biscarosse Parentis

Investigation progression Closed
Progress: 100%

During the ninth water landing of the day, in the middle of Biscarrosse lake, the pilot lost control of the seaplane during the flare. The sinking of the right wing and the ineffectiveness of the ailerons described by the pilot suggest that the aeroplane stalled asymmetrically.

The pilot was unable to regain control of the aeroplane before contact was made with the surface of the water. The floats ruptured upon impact and the aeroplane quickly sank.
