After the winch launch, the instructor notices that they are unable to gain altitude. He attempts to climb by performing spirals at various locations, but without success. The flight is aborted, and he tries to return for a landing on the gliding airstrip, only to realise the glider is too low to reach it. The instructor decides to land in a nearby field. Just before touchdown in the field, he is forced to make a sharp left turn. The left wing strikes the ground and breaks off, causing the glider to ground loop.
