Accident to the SCHLEICHER ASW20 registered D-8631 on 05/04/2025 at Saint-Geniez

On the return leg, the pilot did not manage to find uplifts. When he was around 20 km from Sisteron - Vaumeilh aerodrome, at an altitude of 1,400 m, the pilot was unable to cross the last ridgeline separating him from the valley in which the aerodrome was situated. He was forced to abort the flight and look for a field to land in. The pilot searched for and found an obstacle-free area which seemed to be suitable and started his landing pattern. In the last turn, the glider quickly lost altitude and the pilot was not able to prevent the tail of the glider from coming into contact with a power line situated on the final path.
