After approximately 35 minutes of flight time, the navigator and observer requested the pilot in command (PIC) to abort the line inspection for data cross-checking.
The PIC elected to land in the immediate vicinity. On final approach, the helicopter was aligned with the power line, then performed a 180-degree turn to land. The tail rotor assembly struck an unnoticed secondary power line, running perpendicular to the primary line. The PIC continued with the landing.
