Serious incident to the Fouga Magister registered F-GSYD operated by Yankee Delta and the Bristell B23 registered F-HRIV on 21/03/2026 at Rennes - Saint-Jacques AD
Unauthorised landing on reciprocal QFU, loss of separation with an aircraft landing on the active runway
The translation below is for innformation only:
Returning from a commercial sightseeing flight, the pilot of F-GSYD reported that he was on the left-hand long base leg for runway 10 (active runway). The controller instructed him to join the left-hand downwind leg for runway 32 (secondary runway). The pilot correctly read this back but commenced his approach to runway 28 (the main runway, reciprocal QFU), consistently referring to runway 32 in his exchanges with the controller. Observing that the aircraft was landing on runway 28 whilst a light aircraft was on final approach to runway 10, the controller instructed the latter to carry out a missed approach.
